Unlocking the Benefits of Garlic

Here is a good article in the Times about the benefits of garlic, and since I cook with this stuff all the time I will tell you that it does help me keep down common colds. Previously before I started using so much of this herb in cooking I was prone to several colds a year and now hardly even get one a year. I can’t say if the pill form will do just as good but the fresh kind will.

Garlic is in no means a cure-all herb but I believe it does have an essential role to play,  there are many foods this herb can go in and be delicious and to me it does have some health potential and look at it this way sure can’t hurt, o.k so it does have some ‘breath’ problems but if we can get by these with some mints you will not regret adding this little herb to your diet and at best you can keep those vampires at bay.

In a study published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers show that eating garlic appears to boost our natural supply of hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide is actually poisonous at high concentrations — it’s the same noxious byproduct of oil refining that smells like rotten eggs. But the body makes its own supply of the stuff, which acts as an antioxidant and transmits cellular signals that relax blood vessels and increase blood flow.

The power to boost hydrogen sulfide production may help explain why a garlic-rich diet appears to protect against various cancers, including breast, prostate and colon cancer, say the study authors. Higher hydrogen sulfide might also protect the heart, according to other experts. Although garlic has not consistently been shown to lower cholesterol levels, researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine earlier this year found that injecting hydrogen sulfide into mice almost completely prevented the damage to heart muscle caused by a heart attack.

‘My name is Muhammad’ – Teddy Bear

It seemed the most innocent of school projects. To encourage her seven-year-old pupils to learn about the animal kingdom, Gillian Gibbons asked them to find a name for a teddy bear. Unfortunately, they chose Muhammad.

Now the 54-year-old teacher from Liverpool is being held in a Sudanese jail facing charges of insulting Islam’s prophet. She was detained at her residence at the exclusive British-styled Unity High School in the capital Khartoum on Sunday after a number of parents complained to the Ministry of Education.

Apparently this incident occurred only a month after the teacher arrived and escalated from there, to the 40 lashes, the children are the ones who came up with the name of the teddy bear and the way I read the article the woman meant no insult to Muhammad himself.

UPDATE;

One of the students has came forward in defense of the teacher, he said that he put forward his own name in class,,which happens to be Muhammad. Can you believe we came from an innocent student project to the sentence of 40 lashes?

excerpt; A seven-year-old Sudanese boy has defended his British teacher, who stands accused of insulting Islam’s prophet, saying that he had suggested calling the class teddy bear Muhammad because it was his own name.

Police arrested Gillian Gibbons, 54, on Sunday after complaints by parents that she had acted blasphemously in allowing the toy to be called Muhammad. Gibbons, a teacher at the exclusive British-style Unity high school in Khartoum, had asked her pupils to name the bear as part of a project to teach them about animals and their habitats. “The teacher asked me what I wanted to call the teddy,” the boy told Reuters. “I said Muhammad. I named it after my name.”

Woman accused of raping 5-year-old

SANFORD – Eleven years ago, Kelly Lumadue, then 21, had sex with a 5-year-old boy. There’s no disputing it. It was captured on videotape. But should she spend the rest of her life in prison?

In June, a Seminole County jury watched those tapes and convicted her of two counts of capital sexual battery. Before she could be sentenced — and the only sentence allowed by Florida law is life without the possibility of parole — a judge ordered a new trial.

What I am reading in this article is that a child was raped and terrorised by a 21-year-old and it looks to me as though they are trying either to belittle the crime or trying to go easy on the perpetrator? This crime would have never came to light unless the video tape had not be discovered, kind of like the crime that took place in Nevada with a small girl who was raped on video.

The woman who committed this crime on the child claims to be pressured by her then husband to do it, looking for a cop-out excuse to terrorise a child and we should wonder how come we read of these crimes more frequent today, crimes on video that took place years ago. The justice system appears to be broken when it comes to punishment for the individuals who commit these crimes, of course it should be a mandatory life sentence for the woman and her estranged husband. By dealing harshly with criminals I believe to be a good deterant to crime such as this and think about she had all these years to come forward with the truth but did not.

Man mistakes moo moo for coyote & Another gets fresh with a Fence

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., Nov. 23 (UPI) — A Michigan hunter may face criminal charges for mistaking a pregnant cow for a coyote.

Richard Buckner, 42, shot his neighbor’s 1,400-pound breeding cow while reportedly looking for coyotes in the woods near his home, The Traverse City Record-Eagle reported Friday.

“I don’t know how he hit a several-thousand-pound cow mistaking it for a coyote,”Rory Heckman, Benzie County undersheriff, told the newspaper.

The guy is either blind or just trying to get out of the mess he’s in, it is a wonder if the neighbor didn’t go after him with a gun. This reminds me of (Me,Myself and Irene). For those of you who didn’t see the movie, take my word for it, it was hilarious.

Here is another one, can’t find that willing lady?? HA,HA,HA,,just borrow a fence;

LONDON, Nov. 21 (UPI) — London police allege a man’s stated intentions to have sex with a fence led to his arrest and a court appearance this week.

Prosecutor Philip Lemoine told Westminster Magistrates’ Court that when police approached Daniel French in Leicester Square Gardens Sunday, the 24-year-old allegedly told them of his lascivious intent, The Daily Telegraph said Wednesday.

“He said words to the effect of: ‘I’m going to have sex with that fence,’” Lemoine alleged in court this week.

I told you guys I find some weird goings on out there. One thing about the Internet it can lighten your day sometimes with laughter, I have a lot of mixed in odd things on this blog but it keeps us kind of laughing sometimes.

Embattled Oral Roberts president resigns – Yahoo News

The president of Oral Roberts University, Richard Roberts has resigned amid allegations that he misused funds and created a lascivious lifestyle for himself and his family.

Roberts and the university have come under fire since a lawsuit was filed by three former professors last month.

The lawsuit includes allegations of a $39,000 shopping tab at one store for Richard Roberts’ wife, Lindsay, a $29,411 Bahamas senior trip on the university jet for one of Roberts’ daughters, and a stable of horses for the Roberts children.

Nothing has been written in stone yet on this one but think for a moment,,think of all the old people that have given down to their last dime thinking that they were contributing to a worthy cause when instead, they could have been contributing to the lascivious lifestyle of only a few individuals who foolishly wasted their money and all this being done in the name of our lord Jesus Christ. If you do give to causes like I do myself please do as much research as you can on the cause you are giving to, you just might be giving money for someones vacation in the Bahamas.

Every-time I read stories such as this it makes me more and more cautious and even makes me want to second guess just what I’m doing, but I look at these stories as just a few bad apples in a lot of good and that is how we must look at it. If we get to the point where this kind of stuff consumes us we never would give to anything worthy and by doing so we just might be stifling a lot of good to those truly in need.
