Mutants or saviors? Rabbit genes create trees that eat poisons

Here is an odd ball out today, rabbit genes and trees according to the article these trees can fight pollution,

When the scientists stick a rabbit gene into poplar trees, the trees become dramatically better at eliminating a dozen kinds of pollutants commonly found on poisoned properties.

The trees could prevent the need for digging up tons of soil or pumping out millions of gallons of water for treatment and disposal. They naturally render a list of cancer-causing pollutants — benzene, trichloroethylene (TCE), vinyl chloride, chloroform — non-toxic.

This sounds all and good but I would wonder of the side effects of doing something like this and the aftermath.

I’m worried about this also, Floyd. Who knows what will happen?

Kind of weird when you think of it, it would seem to help and that’s for sure my main concern is for the after-effects on our ecosystem.

What scares me about this is Man, whom would surely try to incorporate this into our food chain, our vegetable.

You are thinking like me Larry, I mean you cross a rabbit with a popular tree and come out with a tree that absorbs the pollution in the ground it just sounds a little to weird to me. Like you said vegetables and even livestock that eat the grass or these trees pollinate with others in the area and make new strains that might just do the opposite of what these are doing, very scary.
