Life At 93

I have read a rather fascinating story in Discover magazine and it is about a man named Jim Hammond and I knew he had a little blog somewhere so I did a search and located an article written by him you will find the link at the bottom of the page.

Let me begin by saying that Jim is an athlete and works out two hours a day with a trainer, he pushes himself through sprints, runs and strength building exercises, and Jim’s resting heart-rate is 50. He has won to his credit three gold medals and one silver in amateur competitions in this year alone, he runs races in the 100 to 800 meter range and within his division he has broken four national racing records and Hammond has done this all at the age of 93.

According to his interview in Discover magazine he has no secret to his longevity and did not get really serious about exercising a little until he was in his fifties and did not really get into it heavy until he was in his eighties.  Hammond told Discover he loved nothing better than winning, he said that it had been a wonderful thing for him.

Jim describes his running of the 800-meter race in the 2007 National Senior Olympics and said he won it as a photo finish, and broke the national record and at the age of 93 had the most exhilarating experience of his life.

I guess this story should inspire all of us knowing Jim did not exercise per-say until his fifties and did not do it seriously until his eighties, well in a way it makes us think that life is only what we make it and at any age if we choose to be more healthy and work at it, we may someday break a record at 93,,,way to go Jim you give the rest of us hope.

Mine to, when I read his story it just gives hope that if someone can accomplish all this at 93 then we should all think of growing older, maybe not as scary as it seems. Glad you stopped over and read about life at 93, this is inspiring for all of us.

Now that should give me some motivation to get out and walk more.

Me to Larry, this guy has accomplished a lot and it is hard to believe that he did not get serious about it until his eighties. Reading about him makes me want to get out and walk and anything that I can to be more healthy.
